Alternatives to Working

HOW DO UNEMPLOYED PARTNERS SPEND THEIR TIME IN PHILADELPHIA?

Many partners choose not to work during their time in Philadelphia for various reasons:

Full-time Parent

There are partners who are full-time moms or dads. Many of these partners actively participate in the Wharton Kids Club, which offers a great network for both parents and children.

Higher Education

Partners often decide to further their education as well during this time. Philadelphia offers a large number of higher education institutions – in fact, Philadelphia’s student population rivals Boston’s, having over 80 colleges and universities with a combined matriculating population of 250,000 students. We even have partners who end up attending Wharton for their MBA during their student’s second year, or after their student graduates.

Pursue a Passion

Many partners choose to use this time to pursue their creative passion. Examples include designing and selling their own jewelry or handbags, writing that screenplay they always wished they had time to work on, and starting their own architecture & interior design firm, to name just a few.

Volunteer

Philadelphia, like every other large city, has plenty of need for community service volunteers. Many partners have found great reward in contributing their time, intelligence, and energy through this avenue.
