NORTHERN LIBERTIES

Bordered by Girard Avenue, Callowhill Street, 6th Street, and the Delaware River – Northern Liberties has recently introduced thie city’s first outdoor piazza complete with a giant movie screen and gazebo for live music. Numerous restaurants and small shops line the streets of this newly revitalized neighborhood.

OLD CITY

Confined within Walnut and Vine Streets and Front and 6th Streets, Old City has become the center of Philadephia’s art world. Browse in more than 50 museums and galleries, all within an easy walking distance of your home. It’s a far hike if you plan on walking to Wharton (30 min bus ride), but it’s a fun place to live.

RITTENHOUSE SQUARE

Situated between 18th and 19th streets on Walnut Street, Rittenhouse is one of 5 original squares laid out by William Penn. Boutiques and restaurants surround this square. The square is usually full of people reading, walking their pets, or just out for a stroll. Most Wharton students live within a 5-minute walk from the square.

ART MUSEUM

Extends along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, which begins near City Hall and ends at the Philadelphia Art Museum. This area’s proximity to Fairmount Park, the largest landscaped city park in the world, makes it a great area for families. It is about a 15 minute bike ride to campus, 20 minutes via bus and subway.

FITLER SQUARE

From 23rd St to the river and from Locust to South St – small apartment buildings and row houses make up the majority of the neighborhood. The off-leash dog park is located here as well as several well regarded restaurants. Aside from Center City West, this area provides the shortest walk to campus from Center City.

CENTER CITY WEST

A little-known area by the dog park, aka the Schuylkill River Park, at 25th-26th and Pine-Spruce. There are lots of nice row houses (brownstones) in this area.

UNIVERSITY CITY

Extends from the Schuylkill River west to 45th Street and encompasses the campuses of the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. There are some beautiful old homes and old apartment buildings with lots of character and less expensive amentities. Less than a 10 minute walk to campus.
